Administration of the Hume Fellowship

The Fellowship is administered by a Board of three Trustees. Bruce Day, the National Service Centre Manager at the Lower Hutt Public Trust Office, Hugh Sutherland is an accountant in private practice and John La Roche is a retired civil engineer. The Board meets two or three times a year to confirm the appointment of Fellows, receive reports and manage the trust investments.

Advertising for applications, interviewing and recommendation of Fellows is the responsibility of the Director of Operations, IPENZ Engineers New Zealand. Applications are usually widely advertised in New Zealand engineering publications from August until applications close in February.

It is worth noting that although the Fellowship is a considerable sum of money, the cost of a 12-month period of study at an overseas University is usually double the value of the Fellowship. Fellows need to be able to raise sufficient funds, borrow or seek their employer's assistance with the additional costs for overseas study.
